![]() A celebration of life will be held at Wienke’s Market (292 County S, Algoma) on Saturday, Oct. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Eric Nelson, and infant nephew Carl Nelson. Survivors include his wife Jane four children, Hans and Kaye Wienke, Iron Mountain, MI Sigrid and David Slaby, Algoma Tollef and Sheila Wienke, Forestville and Marit and Jim Virgin, Sturgeon Bay grandchildren, Nelson (Lisa), Ian, and Aidan Wienke Sam Slaby (Lindsey Brehmer), Nate (Lyanne) Slaby Ella, Sanya, Paula, Shambo, Tre, Zone, Daniel, Kemal, Maria, and Jhonatan Wienke Wolfgang, Greta and Sven Virgin one sister, Joanne and Kenneth Cocking, Prophetstown, IL one brother, Jon and Gail Wienke, Sturgeon Bay in-laws, Theresa Nelson, Ripon Roger and Mary Nelson, Algoma Lyle and Monica Nelson, Sturgeon Bay Alfred “Fritz”and Joyce Nelson, College Station, TX further survived by many nieces and nephews. Don was a devoted husband for almost 59 years, caring for his wife until the end. Don’s untiring hard work ethic proved to make his business successful with the help of all his loyal employees through the years. In the early 1970’s, Don and his wife established Wienke’s Market. He married Beverly Jane Nelson on October 13, 1962, at Forest Lutheran Church in Carnot, WI and they had four children. In the late 1950’s, Don moved to Algoma with his parents and helped establish the first Piggly Wiggly Store in Kewaunee County. He was born October 19, 1938, in LaCrosse, WI, to Frederick and Ruth (Toepel) Wienke. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Rosary Church at 11:00 a.m. Visitation continues on Monday at the funeral home until 10:30 a.m. and a parish wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Auxiliary Services will be held at 6:30 P.M. Sunday at Buchanan Funeral Home, Kewaunee. She is also survived by her best friend since kindergarten: Sue Wessel as well many many close friends. and two grand nephews: Nolan LeCloux and Griffin Lovko-King aunts and uncles: Leonard, Melvin and Gladys, Nubs and Joyce and Grace Gallenberger, Betty Doperalski, Norman Oshefsky and Roger Yakel and numerous cousins. Survivors include her four sisters and three brothers-in-law: Mary and Gene Baumeister, Sturgeon Bay Joanne O'Neil, Kewaunee and DesPlaines, IL Jacqueline and Kevin Webster, Manitowoc and Cheri and Chuck Kubec, Kewaunee three nieces: Tivoli, Marisa (special friend, Ryan Jerabek) and Salina O'Neil three nephews: Marcus and Michael Kubec and Elliott Webster. Nancy also worked for her sister, Jacqui, at Jacqui's Just Horsing Around Sport's Bar. Over the years she worked at several Kewaunee businesses including Larry and Mona's Restaurant, The Bucket, the Waterfront, Schmidt's Coach Inn and Brother's Dairy. She served as a baby-sitting instructor for the American Red Cross for several years. Nancy was one of the main Trout Festival and Christmas Parade coordinators for costumed candy givers. She was one of the original "Petunia Pluckers". She would not let anyone get past the door without purchasing tickets. Nancy was the fund raiser for raffle tickets for Horray for Holliwood for several years. Auxiliary, she was very active in assisting the Kewaunee Chamber of Commerce in many of their projects and operation of their tourist information center. She was currently serving on the Kewaunee County Board of Supervisors and served on their human services committee and Lakeshore Cap and very much enjoyed attending their conferences at Madison, was a member of the V.F.W. She was presently working in customer service at the Piggly-Wiggly store in Kewaunee. Nancy graduated from Kewaunee High School in 1976. She was born Jin Kewaunee to the late Milton J. Lazansky, age 49 of Kewaunee died Thursday, surrounded by her family at her sister, Joanne's house. ![]()
